As per UIDAI, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frslabs.com\/aadhaar-masking\/\">Masked Aadhaar<\/a> refers to redacting the first eight digits of Aadhaar number \u2013 in physical or digital form. Regardless of the industry you are in, you will have to mask\/redact Aadhaar numbers as per current regulations. For instance, even if you are just a small business taking Aadhaar as proof of identity from employees, the same needs to be masked before filing and storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/frslabs.com\/frsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/mask-aadhaarcard.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1110\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/frslabs.com\/frsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/mask-aadhaarcard.png\" alt=\"Aadhaar Masking\" class=\"wp-image-971\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.frslabs.com\/frsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/mask-aadhaarcard.png 1110w, https:\/\/www.frslabs.com\/frsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/mask-aadhaarcard-300x91.png 300w, https:\/\/www.frslabs.com\/frsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/mask-aadhaarcard-768x232.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ae0a60\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Masked Aadhaar Circulars<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can refer to the following regulations with regards to masked Aadhaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UIDAI<\/strong> regulation on Masked Aadhaar dated 23 October 2018: Ordinance Aadhaar Amendment: F.No.13012\/171\/2018\/Legal\/UIDAI\/114<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RBI <\/strong>regulation on Masked Aadhaar: Master Direction &#8211; Know Your Customer (KYC) Direction, 2016 (Updated 29 May 2019): RBI\/DBR\/2015-16\/18,Master Direction DBR.AML.BC.No.81\/14.01.001\/2015-16 AND Amendment to Master Direction (MD) on KYC: RBI\/2018-19\/190,DBR.AML.BC.No.39\/14.01.001\/2018-19<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IRDAI<\/strong> regulation on Masked Aadhaar dated 29 January 2019: Allowing of Aadhaar Card as one of the acceptable documents for KYC- under certain conditions: Ref: IRDAI\/SDD\/Cl R\/MISC\/020\/01\/2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEBI<\/strong> regulation on Masked Aadhaar dated 24 April 2020: Clarification&nbsp; on&nbsp; Know&nbsp; Your&nbsp; Client&nbsp; (KYC)&nbsp; Process&nbsp; and Use&nbsp; of Technology for KYC: Ref: SEBI\/HO\/MIRSD\/DOP\/CIR\/P\/202<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ae0a60\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Regulatory compliance on Masked Aadhaar<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As per regulations, you will have to mask Aadhaar preferably at the point of capture and certainly before storing them permanently in your downstream systems and databases. If you are using services such as <a href=\"https:\/\/frslabs.com\/video-kyc\/\">Video KYC<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/frslabs.com\/customer-onboarding\/\">IPV\/OSV\/PIVC<\/a> to onboard and verify customers, then you must redact the Aadhaar Number from the Aadhaar card shown in the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frslabs.com\/aadhaar-masking\/\">Learn more about Video Aadhaar Masking ><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>You should not store the full Aadhaar Number in your downstream systems and databases. However, if you have an Aadhaar Vault system, you may store the full Aadhaar Number in your vault and then use a surrogate number in your downstream numbers.
